Visiting a dentist is a chore. Well, there are some I know who love going to the dentist. A particular acquaintance of mine even visits her dentist every week. She's an isolated case though, and the rest of us don't feel the same. Most of us would even forego visiting a dentist if it just wasn't that important to have preventive dentistry done on our teeth.

But go to the dentist we shall. For the sake of our oral hygiene, we need to. Good thing we are required to go to our dentists a mere twice a year. That's six months of uninterrupted joyful munching. That is of course, if you last six months without having some sort of dental emergency.

Dental emergencies are a pain. Both literally and figuratively. Literally because tooth, gum and jaw pain are some of the most painful pains we ever experience, and figuratively because that would mean we'd have to go to our dentist and hear that high pitched drill sound again. You know, the one that makes the hair on the back of our necks stand up on end? Who loves that sound anyway? Can't they invent a drill that makes no sound? With all the technological advancements we achieve, at least let us create a soundless dentist's drill. Or if not, make it the sound of laughing hyenas to at least distract us from the pain. But getting back on point, these are the reasons why preventive dentistry is a must. It makes sure that our visits to the dentist is limited to only twice a year.

Which is why we need to have good dentists. A good dentist in Melbourne is like one in ten. And they are not that easy to find. The reason why our dentists need to be good is because I don't think anyone would want an unskilled person poking around our mouths while we sit helplessly do we? At least knowing that our dentist is skilled gives us confidence and thus, less stress knowing we will be alright.
